I provide departmentalized reading/writing instruction for all 5th graders at Foust by working with a team of teachers. Depending on the number of students enrolled, I teach a daily rotation of the same reading and writing content multiple times a day. During one rotation each day, I co-teach with a special education teacher to provide small group instruction to students with an IEP, 504, etc. Together we plan instruction modifications, layout goals for students, and agree on reading/writing benchmarks for each student. We also teach, practice and master student-advocation of IEP accomodations. During the reading rotation, I teach explicit writing skills that include vocabulary enrichment, grammar usage, and oral storytelling.
During this time I worked with a team of teachers to provide Science instruction for approx 125+ students daily. By using computer simulations, in-class demonstrations, and selected standards based texts, I planned, taught and assessed Kentucky's Science standards. I implemented and guided a ACT study group for my students who wanted extra help preparing for the Science and Reading portion of the ACT by gathering practice tests, Close-reading questions and modeling smart test taking practices.
