Barista

Onyx Coffee Lab
10.2015 - 05.2023
  • My previous role with Onyx was working as a barista and customer service expert welcoming visitors to the Downtown Bentonville experience, and providing a superior product and expert information in a way that makes the guests feel welcomed, valued, and appreciated without making them feel overwhelmed or intimidated
  • I love my job
  • I love the fast-paced, beautiful environment, and I love the people I work with every day, both the guests and the employees.

Mortgage Loan Originator

Gateway Mortgage
  • I studied for months and passed the state and federal tests to attain the many licenses required to perform this important job
  • I brought everything I had to this customer service job, and then learned many more valuable things about customer service and communication, both in the field and by email communication
  • I was ultimately unable to hold out long enough financially to break into the business that its members had been a part of for decades, but I take much pride in what I was able to learn and achieve in my time there.

Barista Trainer

Starbucks
  • I loved my job with Starbucks
  • I started at the store on Walnut, and then less than 3 months later, I moved to the location on Pinnacle Hills & New Hope as the barista trainer
  • I was also personally selected by the regional manager to train all new partners at a brand new store on the UofA campus in Ft Smith
  • I was responsible for training the new hires everything they needed to know to become the best possible partners
  • I taught them the skills they needed to craft a superior product, but the reason I was made a trainer was because I was able to teach the new partners about how to embody a positive attitude, and how to ensure that our guests are left with an unforgettable, positive experience, and that not only their needs have been met, but that they left our store with at least a little more than they were hoping to receive
  • It's a gift to be able to provide small pleasures.

Store Manager

Orange Leaf
  • I was in charge of hiring and firing employees, maintaining a complicated schedule, keeping a line of communication with vendors, the owners, and my employees, making daily reports, keeping weekly inventory, and keeping the stores stocked
  • The owners replaced me with a college graduate who went to school for marketing, and the Rogers location closed shortly thereafter.

Waitress

Various Restaurants
  • I waited tables for 14 years, and I believe I learned more than I could ever have learned at a college
  • I learned about human behavior
  • I learned about the food service industry
  • I learned about customer service
  • I learned about how to keep the circus rolling along and everyone entertained even while the lions are roaring in their cages, and the clowns are running amok
  • Multi-tasking is an understatement
  • I loved waiting tables, and when I left the job, I promised myself I would never do it again
  • I have kept that promise.
