BASIC FUNCTION:

Support students' academic, emotional, and social development through assessment and evaluation, intervention and support, consultation, prevention, and collaboration in order to create a supportive environment that fosters students' overall well-being and academic success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Provide comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations in order to determine eligibility for Special Education Services.
• Conduct functional behavioral assessments to identify underlying causes of challenging behaviors and create effective behavior intervention plans accordingly.
• Effectively communicate results of evaluation and promote understanding of the student’s functioning in order to provide recommendations to the IEP team.
• Serve as a resource to teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, other professionals, and parents through a consultation service model and serve as a member of interdisciplinary teams to address the needs of at-risk students.
• Enhance the professional growth of teachers, staff, and parents through in-service sessions, consultation, and sharing of materials to promote greater understanding of special education and other topics.
• Share and demonstrate knowledge of behavioral intervention, positive discipline techniques, and effective practices with parents and school personnel.
• Streamline referral processes for special education services, ensuring timely support for students with additional needs.
• Enhance a positive climate by providing staff with professional development training on therapeutic behavior management.
• Facilitate the transition process for students entering new educational settings, ensuring smooth integration and appropriate accommodations.
• Support students' transition to post-secondary education by offering guidance and psychological assessments that informed their educational choices.
• Increase parent involvement by hosting informational events focused on supporting children''s academic success and emotional wellbeing.
• Utilize research-based practices to inform decision-making processes related to school-wide behavior initiatives and intervention strategies.
• Implement data-driven decision-making processes to monitor progress and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions for continuous improvement.
• Assist in crisis response efforts, ensuring timely interventions for at-risk students while maintaining a safe learning environment.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with state regulations, ensuring confidentiality and ethical practices across all professional activities.
• Advocate for equitable access to educational opportunities by assessing potential accommodations or modifications required for diverse learners within the general education curriculum.
• Expand professional skills, staying abreast of current educational issues and trends through professional development.
