Job overview

  • Cleaned and sanitized dental tools and equipment, cleaned and sterilized treatment rooms for next patient, restocked supplies to prep for next day and maintain health and safety practices. (OSHA)
  • Enter patient data into computer system after thoroughly going over patients medical history's prior to starting surgeries making sure all medications, allergies, Pre-Med info, and prior surgeries are all up to date and entered accurately. Adhering to strict privacy laws (HIPPA) making sure consent forms are accurate according to referrals and the surgeon notes before having patient sign.
  • Take pre vitals prior to surgery ( BP/ pulse, weight) we would check patients INR or blood sugar levels as needed prior to surgeries.
  • Sterilization of all surgical instruments, Implant carts and kits, KLS screw kits, TADS instruments or piezo machine parts ( they have special sterilization process).
  • Ordering of bone, screws, and implants after surgery, also keeping inventory of all.
  • Educated patients prior to surgery regarding what to expect, how to treat pain and which side effects could occur with Nitrous Oxide or IV Sedation ( always helps patient's anxiety and puts them at ease, also helps them have more trust in you and the doctor)
  • Educated patients on pre-surgical procedure and expectations and post-surgical care instructions ( THOUROUGHLY)
  • Staged trays for next day surgeries,setting up carts for implants and AO4 surgeries, making sure to have any appliances, or replacement appliances, and surgical guides (if not made by us) are delivered and in our office prior to surgery.
  • Scheduled patient follow up appointments.
  • Monitored patient comfort and safety during local, N20 or IV Sedation surgeries.
  • Drawing proper dosages of sedation meds ( VERSED, FENTYNAL, KETAMINE, DEXAMETHASONE and PROPOFOL (PRN) ) day before and during surgeries. * ALWAYS making sure another assistant double checks the drug, the amount and that it came from its bottle!) DRUG count AM and PM with another assistant. ( always making sure patients drug info for surgery was logged for the day prior to PM count ALWAYS with two assistants and initial before PROPERLY locking them up for the day/night.
  • proper opening and closing office, checking Tanks Nitrogen, O2, and Nitrous AM/PM calling for reorders, making sure crash cart is unlocked first thing in AM before any surgeries start and locking it up in PM after all surgeries and patients are gone. Making sure SUCCINYLCHOLINE bottles are put in every room prior to any surgery starting and making sure it is put back in FRIDGE in pm
  • Taking proper x-rays PANO, PA's or CT Scans
  • Making sure patient X-rays, CT's, Cephs are updated ( IF NOT DO SO) prior to surgeon coming as well as having updated referable pulled up ( IF NONE CALL TO HAVE emailed ASAP) prior to doctor coming in.
  • Taking INTRA ORAL SCANS or alginate impressions depending on surgery or Ortho Records consultation, pouring up alginate impressions and separating properly.
  • When assisting with Local or N20 procedures we always had the two assistants and when assisting with IV Sedation patients we always had three assistants and we circulated positions ( Main assistant, Chanter and circulating assistant) iWhen being the circulation assistant your responsible for Recording start and end times for N20 and surgery, final vitals, medication administer during Sedation patients as well as being in charge of the monitors for the pt, making sure your IV bags are opened and closed before and after administering medications through IV, drawing up more medications PRN the surgeon ( again always double checking and verifying the amount of meds and bottle with another assistant or the surgeon in the room.
  • Disposing of left over drugs in the proper drug waste box in sterilization.
  • Calmed nervous patients by speaking softly, answering questions and providing compassionate care ( ALWAYS).
  • Some assistants used our machine called Fancy Duck to print 3D guides for implant cases
  • Some examples of surgeries we did:
  • wisdom teeth removal, single tooth extractions, surgical extractions , multiple extractions, biopsy's, bone grafting including ramous with screws and mesh with PRP or PRF ,tissue grafting, placement of TADS (ortho appliance) exposure and bonding chains ( for ortho), frenulectomy surgery, jaw fractures, single tooth and multiple Dental Implant placing, AO4 or AO6, Hybrid Dentures. Orthognathic surgery in the hospital (BSSO and Lefort I,II & III.

  • Placed attachments for comprehensive and refinements for Invisalign, pumice, etch with flowable, removed excess flash with white stone.
  • Also removed attachments for Invisalign with white stone and then insert Viveras retainers once treatment was done.
  • Created lab slips.
  • Performed administrative duties, including appointment setting and follow up phone calls.
  • Set up all Ortho rooms and sterilized all equipment and ensured appropriate tray set ups are maintained.
