Ambitious Doctoral PhD. Candidate (ABD) and Career and Technical Education Program Specialist with excellent communication skills demonstrated by 10 years of leadership experience and 18+ years of teaching experience across special education, visual and performing arts, CTE, and humanities disciplines with a focus and passion on historically underserved populations, and students with disabilities.
I taught in the Art and Education Department as an Adjunct Lecturer. The courses I taught are Art 184y and Z, which are supervision courses for students going through student teaching. My role is to supervise students who are going into teaching and evaluate them on the CA six teaching standards and course outcomes while working with their school site placements and mentor teachers respectively.
I took a leave of absence from this position to start working on my Doctorate, while focusing on my new position in Mountain View Los Altos UHSD.
I was a founding teacher at Christopher High School, hired to start and build a quality VAPA/CTE program. Focusing on underserved youth, I created accessibility within the master schedule so that all students had access to CTE and VAPA courses by creating (and teaching) courses that were more than 50% Socio Economically Disadvantaged, English Language Learner or Students with Disability courses. I served as Department Chair, Principal's Leadership Team, & other various lead roles. I was also a mentor teacher, (helping new CTE teachers clear their credentials within the district) and served as a CTE liaison for the district.
During this time, I also write numerous grants, conducted Professional Development Grant writing PDs for Educators, and served as Vice President for California Teachers Association. Previous to being elected in that role, I served as a site representative.
Taught Middle School Elective Classes to help give new life to the art/CTE program there which was cut in the early 2000's. I developed a CTE photography class, and a painting class, additionally re-implemented the visual arts at a very low struggling school with great success. So much so, that my Principal, insisted I come over to the new high school when it was being built and start the program there as Department Chair.
