"The Popular Mobilization Forces and Human Rights in Iraq" - This IB Engagement Activity research paper was written for an IB Global Politics class in October of 2023 and concerns the role of Hashd al-Sha'bi in promoting human rights in Iraq since its foundation. The paper was written following extensive interviews with two Iraqi journalists, one with a more pro-Hashd leaning, the other being more opposed to Hashd and its human rights violations. It discusses the role of Hashd in defeating ISIS, but also its alleged human rights violations against Iraqi protestors in the Tishreen protests, as well as its alleged suppression of Assyrian communities through the use of the Babylon Brigades in the Nineveh Plains.
