Work History

Clinical Intern

Jackie Walorski VA
02.2024 - 05.2024
  • Worked alongside Dr. Wittendorf, OD; Dr. Binkley, OD; Dr. Bugajski, OD; and Dr. John, OD to perform comprehensive eye exams for veterans, managing a wide range of ocular conditions including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. Facilitated referrals for low vision devices and advanced ophthalmological care to ensure veterans received timely and appropriate treatment. This role strengthened my interdisciplinary communication skills and enhanced my experience in co-managing complex systemic diseases with ocular involvement.
  • Additionally, I shadowed Dr. Michael Coleman, MD in the ophthalmology department and observed advanced refractive surgeries—including LASIK, PRK, and corneal cross-linking—at the Cataract & Laser Institute of Mishawaka, Indiana, further expanding my knowledge of surgical procedures and post-operative care.

Clinical Intern

America's Best
11.2023 - 02.2024
  • During my time working with Dr. Fazelian, OD, I managed a diverse patient population, addressing conditions such as refractive errors, strabismus, hypertensive retinopathy, and diabetic retinopathy. I conducted thorough patient evaluations to understand individual lifestyles and visual needs, ensuring personalized care. By providing tailored contact lens fittings, including spherical, toric, monovision, and multifocal lenses, I was able to optimize both vision and comfort for each patient. Additionally, I worked closely with Dr. Fazelian to develop effective, individualized treatment plans, contributing to improved patient outcomes. Throughout the rotation at America's Best, it was a valuable experience that provided hands-on clinical training while giving me insight into the fast-paced, business-oriented side of corporate optometry.

Volunteer

ESPN Special Olympics Florida
11.2023 - 11.2023
  • I had the privilege of volunteering at the ESPN Special Olympics in Orlando, Florida, where I provided comprehensive eye exams for athletes participating in the games. This experience allowed me to contribute to the health and performance of the athletes by ensuring their vision needs were met, while also fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. It was both rewarding and inspiring to help individuals receive the care they needed so they could compete with confidence and continue to thrive beyond the games.

Clinical Intern

Behavioral, Developmental, Neuro-rehabilitative, & Vision Therapy Optometry
08.2023 - 11.2023
  • While working under Dr. Buck, OD, I gained valuable experience in vision therapy, utilizing creative techniques to treat patients with developmental delays and individuals recovering from traumatic brain injuries and strokes. I collaborated with the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute of Miami, assisting with neuro-ophthalmology research on visual evoked potential studies, which focused on the brain's response to visual stimuli. Additionally, I incorporated developmental behavioral therapies alongside vision therapy to support patients in regaining typical developmental milestones and utilized syntonic photo light therapy to address issues in body posture and eye movements.
  • Dr. Llewellyn's private clinic, I focused on vision therapy, working with patients to enhance visual skills and address various ocular conditions. In addition to my clinical duties, Dr. Llewellyn is a partner with the Florida Panthers NHL team, where I had the opportunity to apply vision therapy techniques to enhance athletes' eye movements and optimize their on-ice performance. I attended several regular season games, assisting Dr. Llewellyn with any eye care needs for the players such as injuries or on the ice assistance throughout the games. Upon completion of this rotation in, gained hands-on experience with patients facing visual and neurological conditions, while strengthening my skills in personalized therapy and neurooptometric care.

Clinical Intern

Melrose Eyecare Physicians
05.2023 - 08.2023
  • Worked alongside a multidisciplinary team of optometrists and ophthalmologists to manage a wide range of ocular conditions, including dry eye disease, cataracts, and post-operative care. Gained hands-on experience in dry eye treatment protocols, including the use of vitamin supplementation, specialty contact lenses, and in-office procedures. Supported the development of individualized treatment plans and helped monitor recovery for patients undergoing ocular cosmetic surgeries such as blepharoplasty and tarsorrhaphy.
  • Additionally, I was actively involved in the management and co-management of cataract patients, from diagnosis to post-op followup. Through Kovatch Eye Institute, I observed multiple live cataract surgeries, enhancing my clinical understanding of surgical techniques and patient outcomes. This internship also provided exposure to optometric medical billing and strengthened my skills in patient communication, documentation, and collaborative care.

Student Volunteer

SVOSH
05.2023 - 06.2023
  • Worked under the supervision of Dr. John, OD; Dr. Tao, OD; and Dr. Jacob, OD to deliver essential vision care to underserved rural communities in the Moroccan desert of Tan-Tan. Alongside a team of optometrists, I performed vision screenings for over 500 children and adults, using trial frames, loose retinoscopy bars, handheld auto-refractors, and portable slit lamps.
  • During this mission, I encountered a wide range of ocular diseases rarely seen in the U.S., including advanced infectious conditions and trauma-related pathology. We made numerous referrals for hyper-mature cataracts, especially among the older population, highlighting the critical impact of limited access to early eye care in these remote regions. This experience not only strengthened my clinical skills but also deepened my passion for global eye care and community-focused optometry.
