Work History

Intern

Saddleback Kinesiology
Mission Viejo, California
  • The Adapted Kinesiology Program at Saddleback College is aimed to improve the health and well-being of disabled students - whether physically or cognitively impaired. During this internship, I got the opportunity to play sports, swim, and participate in weight training with the students.

Med-Surg Volunteer

Chapman Global Medical Center
Orange, California
  • At the age of 16, I was yearning for some clinical exposure so that I could reinforce my journey towards medicine. Very quickly, I was able to frequently take vitals for patients, tend to their needs (food, water, blankets), and relay information between the patients, physicians, and nurses. I aided the nurses in draining catheters, inserting IVs, showering patients, and more. I also answered all of the phones for the floor and the call lights from the patients.

Administrative Assistant

Imedical
Anaheim, California
  • I worked as an administrative assistant for a blanket of organizations such as OC Urgent Care, Genesis Ambulatory Center, and Y.H Salem MD. My job was to familiarize myself with QuickBooks and payroll management; I learned how to prepare budgets and distribute funds. I also created and enforced employee schedules and paperwork.

Diagnostic Radiology Intern

City of Hope
Duarte, California
  • My experience as a diagnostic radiology intern was surrounding MRI segmentation and oncological literature. I was trained to manually
segment MRI scans of glioblastoma tumors and identify the tumor and edema on each reading. I quickly caught on and segmented
several scans weekly so that they could be further analyzed by the radiology department at City of Hope. Further, I was tasked with
reading academic literature on a variety of manuscripts/reviews detailing radio genomic applications of oncological profiles. I then started to contribute to the writing with the help of my mentors.

Clinical Experience Coordinator

OC Surgical
Foothill Ranch, California
  • I served as the point of contact for foreign M.Ds as they participated in a program that gave them an opportunity to shadow Dr. Salem to enhance their residency applications. I met with each individual, introduced them to the team, provided them with a detailed schedule and some informative links to help with through their time spent with Dr. Salem. On the side, I was collecting a team of these individuals to
help with clinical data collection and analysis. Dr. Salem specialized in the TIF procedure, which does not have overwhelming clinical research since it is a fairly new procedure. I learned great communication and leadership skills by working with people from so many
    different origins.

President

Friends of Dialysis/University of California, Irvine
Irvine, California
  • This community service club aims to raise awareness for Chronic Kidney Disease and comfort patients undergoing dialysis. I gathered a board and led this team through this process. We held weekly meetings catered to students who wanted to learn more and get involved. I became a certified kidney coach so that I could present about the implications of the disease. We also teamed up with a local dialysis center to offer community service/clinical experiences by comforting patients undergoing lengthy treatments. We made comfort kits and played games with the patients

Emergency Room Volunteer

South Coast Global Medical Center
Santa Ana, California
  • I shadowed an E.R. Surgeon to broaden my exposure to the clinical setting. I wanted to get a feel for the fast-paced nature of the E.R. The physician I shadowed was a great teacher who encompassed all of the values that a great physician should have. Through both her words and actions, I learned so much about patient care and the optimal approach to time-sensitive situations. I got a deeper look into her decision making process as she was multi-tasking calmly.

Research Intern

University of California, Irvine
Irvine, California
  • I had the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience while working alongside experienced researchers, physicians, and graduate
students. This lab was centered around immunological implications of treatment, and specifically how we could eradicate Covid-19
through various routes of treatment. I acquired necessary lab techniques such as cell culturing and passaging, PCR, DNA extraction, centrifugation, gel electrophoresis, blotting techniques, and animal handling. I got trained to work with mice for an HIV research project. I
also gained valuable experience with data collection and analysis, professionalism in lab meetings, literature review, and publications

Medical Assistant

OC Urgent Care
Foothill Ranch, California
  • I was always a great multi tasker, but my job as a medical assistant has challenged yet confirmed this at the same time. I was not
optimally trained for this job as it was midst a Covid-19 rush when the office was severely understaffed. I had to learn many things on my own by filling in gaps and observing my co-workers. I was tasked with rooming patients, taking their vitals, inquiring about their medical history and symptom complaints, giving injections, and assisting with procedures. This was done in a very fast-paced environment while juggling patient conversations and comforting them. I learned valuable skills that serve as a foundation for my medical
    journey ahead

Emergency Department Scribe

Santa Ana, California
  • As a scribe working in the Emergency Department, I was exposed to an abundant variation of medical circumstances. The hospital that I worked in was in an underprivileged area, so I observed the socioeconomic gradient within healthcare first-hand. I built a close relationship with the physicians that I worked with and learned so much from them. Me understanding of medical terminology and prognoses was growing every day.
