While teaching itself is not a formal education, it was a daily education in personal growth, and it offered the opportunity to solidify and perfect my own skill set as I introduced these skills to my students. This was an incredible learning experience, to grow in my profession, and to take on new levels of responsibility.

This was another interesting specialty to train and learn in, as it is off the beaten path that an MA usually takes.

I was hired for my phlebotomy skills and was utilized in this way to perform intravenous injections of contrast dye for imaging of the retina.

• The urgent care exposed me to fast-paced, quick-thinking medicine.
• We saw a wide age range of patients and illnesses.
• In this job, I trained and became certified as an X-ray technician.
• I was given the opportunity to train new employees as they come on board, and student medical assistants while they complete their internships.
• This has sparked a love of teaching and sharing my skills and tricks of the trade with new MAs.
• I enjoy watching students learn, find their balance, and become excited about their futures in medicine.

• This was my first job as a medical assistant. Over the years, I alternated between full-time and per diem as a clinic float.
• I filled in with providers as needed.
• I covered the nurse schedule and supported the nursing staff by rooming patients, performing EKGs, ear lavages, administering vaccines, suture removal, and wound care.
• I floated from Internal Medicine to Family Medicine and Women’s Health.
• I worked in women’s health for three months, and then trained my replacement.
