• Pre-Procedure: procedure specific patient assessments, reconciliation of home medications, IV insertion, review of pertinent labs and radiology results, initiate education with patient and family regarding home care and return precautions
• Procedure Domumentation: administration of sedation medications, continuous monitoring of vital signs, assisting physician with tools and scopes, specimen procurement, knowledge of sedation reversal agents, maintain certifications in both ACLS and BLS with quarterly education and competency testing
• Procedure Assist Nurse: setup of procedure room as determined by procedure to be performed and physician needs, handle scopes and equipment according to policy, complete all post procedure steps to ensure scopes are properly steralized
• Post-Procedure Nurse: ensure patient safety during sedation recovery period, review home care and return precautions with family using closed loop communication, provide appropriate resources for continuing education related to procedure findings

I provided 24 hour total care to my mother in law following a significant stroke. Although this was not "traditional" nursing I found that I utilized my extensive skill set, critical thinking, and problem solving on a daily basis.
