Created a safe and effective learning environment and positive classroom culture with a diverse and constantly changing population of at-risk students from 6th-12th grade. Facilitated student learning for all electives throughout their disciplinary placement and removal from their home campus by establishing and maintaining an open line of communication with their classroom teachers. Identified student deficits that impacted their ability to be successful in a mainstream classroom, and provided this information to their teachers, counselors, and administrators to help create a plan for student success upon return. Monitored student performance after leaving DAEP through grade checks and continued contact with students and their classroom teachers.
Responsible for teaching 6 classes with approximately 30 students each throughout the school year. These classes included Child Development, Human Growth and Development, Lifetime Nutrition and Wellness, Counseling and Mental Health, Principles of Education and Training, and Principles of Human Services. District had a 1:1 technology initiative, so technology was incorporated into the classroom to meaningfully enrich students' educational experiences. Created courses on digital platforms such as Canvas and Google Classroom. Mentored approximately 15 students at-risk of dropping out, meeting with them for weekly check-ins and tutoring, and communicating with their teachers and other school staff to increase student success.
Annually taught 6 classes with approximately 30 students each, including Food Science, Child Development, Child Guidance, Family and Community Services, Principles of Hospitality and Tourism, and Restaurant Management. School served a very diverse population of students from 9th-12th grade, including many deaf students bused from surrounding districts.
