Travel Registered Nurse on the Cardiac PCU that handled the patients that came from CVICU or CTICU. I also floated to CTICU where I helped with receiving new hearts from the OR. These patients may have flo tracks, PA's or IABP, external pacemakers when they returned to the unit. These patient's were on multiple drips including milrinone, cardizem, levophed, dopamine, vasopressor, propofol, clevidipine, nicardipine, etc., depending on what the patient needed and the stability of the patient's vitals.
Delivered outstanding care to patients with various diagnoses and managed care from treatment initiation through to completion.
Initially a Staff RN and then transitioned to as needed RN and began traveling.
As a Paramedic in the ER, our scope of practice was opened up in its entirety as it would be if we were in the field. I work alongside a RN and perform task that are within my scope of practice. As we do team nursing, a RN and I take an 8 patient assignment and provide all care needed by the patient including documentation of care giving, medication administration. I do not discharge the patient or perform the initial assessment of patient but everything in between is done by the RN and me in an effort to provide the best care to the patients.
As a lead Paramedic, I was responsible for all care provided to the citizens of Halifax County when a 911 call was made. We were a ALS ambulance. Also responsible for the maintenance and operation of the ambulance I was assigned to; maintaining the ambulance in a ready state of operation at all times. It was my responsibility to call on extra support services such as additional units on scene up to patient requiring helicopter transport from the scene.
