Steps to Apply as a Substitute Teacher for BCSD:

1. In order to be eligible, you must first obtain your Sub Permit, register with the KCSOS office as a Sub Teacher, and be given a packet that says "Congratulations, You are eligible to seek employment as a Subsitute Teacher in Kern County." If you have the packet, you are ready to apply with our district. If you don't have the packet, please visit the KCSOS office so you can complete your preliminary paperwork.

2. You will need to attach paperwork to your application so make sure you have access to a scanner. If you don't have access to a scanner you will need to provide COPIES of all the required documents to our office AFTER you submit your application online. It's in your best interest to keep the original copies of your paperwork so please make sure you provide the copies to us, we do not make copies for you.

3. Please attach the following paperwork from both sections in the "Other Documents" Section of your Application: KCSOS Paperwork: Your Own Paperwork: Temporary Substitute Permit from KCSOS or CTC CBEST Passing Results Form titled "Information Necessary for Sub Teaching" completed by KCSOS Transcripts showing a Bachelor's Degree or showing that you have 90 semester units and currently enrolled in a 4 year university. DOJ Fingerprint Clearance (half sheet) Resume TB Results with doctor's signature 2 letters of recommendation signed and dated within 2 years. (these cannot come from family) Medical Examination form (Physical) Certification of Completion for the

Mandated Reporter Training (CANRA)

& Sexual Harassment Training

(both certificates need to have a completion date after July 1st, 2020)

Kern County Superintendent of Schools (KCSOS) is located at 1300 17th Street Bakersfield, CA

Applicant must make appointment with KCSOS for fingerprints. (661) 636-4672; Applicants must wear face mask, masks are not provided.

The following fees may apply:

Dept. of Justice Clearance - $44.00

DOJ and Certificate of Clearance - $68.00

Credential Application Fee - $55.00 (for those who have never applied for California Credential before)

Copies of required certificates, transcripts or diplomas may be submitted with application. District may require that originals be presented for verification prior to employment. Please check with Human Resources regarding acceptable documents. For positions requiring college course work official transcripts will be required upon employment.

It is the applicant's responsibility to meet all application requirements and supply copies of all required documents. A separate set of paperwork is required for each application submitted. All application materials submitted become the property of Bakersfield City School District.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator's license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.

Chasing that Mighty Dollar. Then I was diagnosed with cancer and it changed my life. I no longer could work in the electrical field. So I return to my first love that I had put on the back burner for years. Which is making art. Drawing portraits and paintings. Selling them on commission while also being on Social Security disability. I taught drawing classes out of my home last summer and thoroughly enjoyed it. Realizing my true calling in life. Now as a substitute teacher. I'm able to teach art in many different schools and Inspire the next generation of artists. While I continue create art in my studio.
