Work History

Deputy Jailer

Fayette County Sheriff's Office
01.2022 - Current
  • I work as a Deputy in the jail. When taking a role in becoming deputy at Fayette County Jail I gained a lot of different roles and responsibilities that gave me experience to deal with multiple different situations in the real world. It opened my eyes to a whole different view on society. It comes with new adventures and views on how to handle different level situations based on the severity. WIth this job having a backbone and a strong will to stay focused and alert is a key component I have to have. The environment can change in a matter of seconds and I have to be ready to switch gears and deal with each incident the correct way. There are post orders and policies in place to help guide with the daily event of the job that I have to remember and follow.
  • While working in housing I have to perform a security check of the pods every 56 minutes to check to make sure that the inmates are behaving and not destroying the cell.
  • While working in housing I am responsible for making sure the inmates have items that are needed. Such as hygiene products, cleaning products for the cell, toilet paper, clothes, and bedding.
  • There’s headcount 3 times a day, it is conducted at the beginning of each shift. The purpose of headcount is to make sure that every inmate is accounted for as well as in the correct cell.
  • Prepare inmates for introduction into the general population by issuing instructions, explaining rules and directing to bed assignment.
  • Meals are served three times a day. They get two hot meals a day and one 'cold' meal for breakfast. The food is made and prepared by the kitchen staff according to state and county laws. My job is to pass the meals with the proper PPE (gloves) as well as scan their Identification cards to count that each inmate received a meal. If an inmate is to refuse a meal I will swipe that as a refusal in the handheld guardian.
  • While working control it’s extremely important that I stay alert and focused. Control is the eye for the whole jail.
  • I have multiple cameras in multiple angles to see the many different spots of the jail.
  • I communicate with inmates through the emergency intercom when they need something and or if there is an emergency.
  • I have to watch the timers for the people running the floor to make sure their round doesn’t go late.
  • Make sure that when the deputy is walking through a pod that they are safe.
  • Let the deputies through each door and make sure that the door is secure behind them so that inmates can not get out of the pod. At the same time I have to make sure that when the intercom button comes on that I view the camera before opening the door to make sure it is a deputy before opening it.
  • Log each and every person that enters and leaves the facility.
  • Take phone calls and answer the question the best I can with the information allowed to be given to the public. Transfer calls to the correct party if I am unable to answer the question or if the caller needs a certain person.
  • Radio deputies to a pod if there's a fight and or medical emergency to the correct pod and get them through the doors in efficient time.
  • Intake inmates that are brought in from city officers, county officers, other jails, and the courts.
  • When inmates get here I am to make sure that the individual doesn’t have drugs on or in their persons.
  • Intake is to get basic information from the individual before booking them into the system.
  • Bring the inmates into the facility and put them through our body scanner, and review the can to see if there are any foreign objects inside the body cavity. After going through the scanner the inmate will go into the change out room and I will search the clothing by gloved hands to make sure there is nothing illegal confined in the clothes.
  • Input new and updated inmate information into the computer system and collect fingerprints via automated scanner. Can also have to collect DNA through a mouth swab depending on the charge.
  • Scanned incoming mail, packages and containers for security concerns such as drugs and other contraband.
  • Take fingerprints for the public for different reasons.
  • Maintain confidentiality rules while learning the information that I get from booking people into the county jail.
  • Conduct a full security check of the entire jail, as well as the outside perimeter of the jail.
  • Supervise co-workers and make sure that their tasks get done for the shift.
  • Take calls from other jails and accept or deny inmates.
  • Give orders and post assignments to co-workers.

Kroger
12.2018 - 12.2021
  • I started working at Kroger my freshman year of High School and worked until after I graduated from high school. With Kroger being my first job it taught me a lot of responsibilities and new experience. While working at Kroger I learned how it’s like to work with the public. How to manage situations with a variety of people. I learned a lot about customer service in the years of working there. Communication in customer service is key and making sure that you are doing everything you can to make it right for the customer is important. As well as handling customers who are having a bad day and aren’t patient or respectful. My time at Kroger gave me opportunities to work in different departments within the store.
  • Courtesy clerk: This is the position I started with when I began my job at Kroger. I collected carts with the cart strap and loaded the amount of cart that was allowed by the rules given on the online training. I would bag groceries, this would be done the proper way. I would make sure that crucible items were in a bag by themselves and placed on top to make sure they were not smashed. I would also make sure that chemical items were bagged separately and not with food items. I would separate meats and not cross contaminate with other items. I would have to clean spills with the correct cleaning supplies, and clean bathrooms. I would also take back groceries that were not wanted back to the correct spot in the store.
  • Cashier: I greeted customers as they walked up to my lane and properly greet the customer. This would be done by saying 'hello' followed by 'did you find everything alright?' I would scan the groceries and try to meet the scan time goal. Once I was in the green my goal was to stay there throughout my shift. I would keep small talk with the customers if they continued to engage in conversation with me. I would keep my register station nice and clutter free and make sure that when I had a go back Item that I put it in the 'go back' basket at the end of the customer's transaction. I would make sure to check regularly after cash transactions to count my draw to make sure I wasn’t over the amount of money allowed in the draw.
  • Customer Service Desk: I worked at the customer service desk for a short time before moving to another department. I would help customers with refunds and or returns. If a cashier needed to override a problem on the register if it was a valuable reason to override and was allowed I would scan my tag. Take coupons from the register and take them back to the deck and put them where they belong.
  • Click-list clerk: I would go through the store and pick out the items that went with my order. If the store did not have the item and the customer allowed substitution I would make that substitution to something of the same brand or a similar item. If not allowed to substitute I would out of stock the item. Would take out groceries to the customers to their car, and would load their groceries and would make sure the heavy items were on the bottom and the smashable on the top. I would take phone calls to answer questions that the customer has about their order and try to help and fix it the best I can. While working in the store I would help any customer that needed assistance finding an item, price check, or reach for an item they couldn’t find.
