Summary

Biomedical researcher with four years' experience in cancer cell biology, with particular emphasis to prostate cancer. My present research focuses on elucidating the mechanisms of therapeutic resistance against PARP inhibitors (PARPi) and next-generation antiandrogen therapies (NGATs) in castration-resistant prostate cancer.

Work History

Graduate Student Researcher

UC Davis Health - Urologic Surgery Department
2020.09 - Current

In the Gao lab, my research focused on elucidating the mechanisms of therapeutic resistance in castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC).I discovered that IGFBP3, an insulin growth factor binding protein associated with cancer development and progression, is highly expressed in Olaparib-resistant CRPC. I showed that IGFBP3 inhibition restored Olaparib sensitivity in resistant, acquired and intrinsic, prostate cancer through DNA damage repair pathway via EGFR and DNA-PKcs. I revealed that EGFR small molecule inhibitor, Gefitinib, synergizes with Olaparib and depleted cell growth.

Junior Specialist

UC Davis - Molecular & Cellular Biology Department
2019.07 - 2020.09

In the Rose lab, my research focused on determining the underlying mechanisms of how LET-99, an asymmetric cell division protein, determines the position of the mitotic spindle and formation of the cytokinetic furrow during mitosis. I worked with the model organism, C. elegans, and performed a structure-function analysis to identify the function of LET-99's domains and their contribution towards the regulation of spindle positioning and furrow formation.

Undergraduate Student Researcher

UC Santa Cruz - MCD Biology Department
2017.06 - 2019.06

In the Zahler Lab, my research focused broadly focused on alternative pre-mRNA splicing. The goal of my project was to genetically map the 3' branchpoint splice site in C. elegans using rapid single nucleotide polymorphism. Intron lariats are produced by the spliceosome and are the end product of mRNA splicing which contain the 3' branchpoint splice site. I isolated intron lariats and degraded the DBR-1 debranching enzyme using a ubiquitin proteasome system to prevent this enzyme from hydrolyzing the 2′-5′ bond in intron lariats. Lastly, I performed high throughput sequencing on the stabilized intron lariats to determine which AG dinucleotide is the 3' splice site.
