Additional Information

  • Study Abroad, Yucatan, Mexico (2022)Explored the current social and environmental issues that threaten the livelihood of the Mayan communities with the rapid rise in tourism and other globalization changes. It bridges human development theories that propose a stand against oppression, injustice, and discrimination, with a particular focus on indigenous populations. I aided in the painting of a mural that stands on the side of Casa Colibri, which serves as a center for aid for women suffering from domestic violence. I also volunteered at an after-school program in a Maya community near Valladolid, Yucatán. At this school, I presented over the importance menstrual health and education, while providing needed sanitation supplies.
  • National Conference on Race & Ethnicity - NCORE, The NCORE conference promotes the creation of inclusive higher education environments, programs, and curriculum; improved campus racial and ethnic relations; and expanded opportunities for educational access and success by culturally diverse, traditionally underrepresented populations. As a participant I was able view different education environments from across the nation and understand how each of them were attempting to provide equitable resources to their respective student populations.
