Summary

My passion for learning translated into a memorable experience as a tutor throughout high school. My clients came to me for different reasons, some because they were passionate and others out of necessity. My goal as a tutor was to communicate the knowledge in a way that didn't snuff out the joy of learning, as it was so often done in the majority of classes I'd attended. Combining true and tried methods with what has worked best for me in order to help people ranging from 9-60 years old achieve Spanish fluency, win their first chess tournament, or in my most recent case, serve as a personal trainer to a few family friends. Throughout the years, it has become more than a job. I felt enormous satisfaction when a client pulls through and achieves their goal. I have had clients move away and stay in touch, and some that I even continue working with via zoom. I have learned to deal with students who didn't want to learn, parents that underpaid, and everything inbetween. I failure often, and nearly quit out of frustration a few weeks into it. My biggest accomplishment, however, is learning to appraise those feelings as just that, a feeling. Nothing more. Recognize the problem. Adjust. Then try again. Teaching has given me the confidence to approach new challenges and welcome them with a smile. It doesn't matter that I fail, only that I get up. My most recent example, Tennis. I began playing in March of 2024, three months before graduation, and found I thoroughly enjoyed it. Once I started training regularly, it occurred to me that I would never be good, and never compete at a high school or college level. If I let this negative thought guide my decisions, I'd of never won a tennis tournament, as I did for the first time two weeks ago.

Work History

Spanish Tutor

Tutored individually dedicated high school students who were looking to further their Spanish fluency. Using methods learned through interviewing various Spanish teachers from the my school district, I created "La Forma Toussieh", which translated to "The Toussieh Way", a teaching curriculum and methodology with conversationally fluency at its core. A focus on talking and listening to Spanish as much as possible, and paying less attention to writing and grammar, as I found the majority of clients expressed more desire to speak Spanish than write it.

Chess Tutor

While COVID-19 took the world by storm, I was turned onto chess after a heart wrenching check-mate, delivered to me by my brother. With online classes in full blast, my interest in what my zoom professor faded, and I found myself playing chess to pass the hours. Week after week I improved, until suddenly, after eight months of obsessive play, my online chess rating broke 1700. Sharing my triumph with a friend, he asked if I'd consider being a tutor, since his younger brother, Jasper, was interested in improving his game. I looked back on all of the strategies I'd used to become better at chess in the last few months and compiled a list of the most useful methods. Just like "La forma Toussieh", I created my own chess curriculum, developed for improving chess cognition and instinct. It's focus was to develop a dangerous creativity that took opponents out of their comfort zone. This initial tutoring venture gave me the confidence to have a try my hand at Spanish.

Personal Trainer

Meet with clients and discuss current exercise routine and diet. Set ambitious, but reachable goals. Next, use their needs to outline a personal, fully customized week long exercise planner, complete with scheduled training sessions and breaks downs of which exercises, how they are done, and how long to do them for. Scheduled into the weekly planner, training sessions where I work along side clients to coach them, maximizing the effectiveness of their time in the gym. Next, a breakdown of their diet, striking a balance between the foods they love to eat and the foods that are stopping them from achieving their goals. Replacing unhealthy meals with cleaner alternative recipes, tailored to match the clients physical aspirations.
