Through social media(@casadepueblo and @la_lazara on Instagram) I came across an interesting volunteering opportunity involving taking part in the restoration of a 17th century home in rural Spain, specifically the region of Aragon. As a result of a trend of rural flight spanning decades, many country farmhouses and in some extreme cases, entire villages have been left entirely abandoned in much of the country. In response there have been numerous measures taken by local and national governments to restore these buildings before they fall too deep into disrepair. This specific workshop centered around plaster, and involved both mixing dyes to produce different colored plasters, and creating textured designs for the interior walls of the home.
As a teachers assistant to the Sunday school at my synagogue I aided in helping students during activities, organizing the classroom, and even created my own interactive lessons for children to partake in.
