Field inspector

RED RIVER ARMY DEPO.
01.2014 - 07.2016
  • My job as a field inspector was to go out into the field and inspect heavy tactical equipment that had been brought onto base for repairs/rebuild as according to the scope of work.
  • Sometimes they required a complete rebuild and sometimes they were a 10/20 program.
  • If it was a 10/20 I had to figure out to what extent the customer wanted repairs to be made, and adjust the inspection to reflect that.
  • Once that was established it was time to inspect the vehicle and complete a detailed list of every single part that was in need of replacement or repair, get the vehicle operational and see what all functions operated properly and what needed repaired and where the repairs were needed.
  • We had to preform test drive to make sure all the essential drive train was in proper working order, and if repairs were needed it was documented and what steps were needed to be preformed to complete the repairs
  • After the initial inspection, test of functions and the test drive was completed, I had to then return to my office and order every item for the repairs and have them shipped to the designated areas where the work was going to be preformed.
  • It was my job to insure all vehicles got all the necessary parts and that they were shipped to the proper location for the completion of that vehicle to the scope of that program.
  • This included but not limited to the FMTV, HETT, HEMITT, PLS, FRAIGHT LINER, CARGO, TANKERS, WRECKERS, ASV, HEMMIT A4, HEMMIT A2.

  • Assisted/advised other mechanics in their job duties.
  • My job was to inspect the vehicle after it came off the assembly line.
  • Wither it was a 10/20 or a complete rebuild.
  • We had to distinguish to which program it belonged to and make sure the proper repairs had been made according to the scope of work.
  • Also, to make sure that all the functions operated properly and make repairs where needed, these repairs included motors, transmissions, hydraulic systems, axles, tires, windshields, up armored glass and up armored cab systems.
  • Every leak had to be fixed and everything had to function as if it were new.
  • Once the initial test drive and systems check was completed a checklist was started detailing all the repairs that were needed and any parts that were needed to make the repairs were also listed.
  • Once the check list was completed, we than had to order all the essential parts to repair the vehicle.
  • After all the repairs were completed and the vehicle preformed as according to the scope of work, we turned it into a quality inspector.
  • The inspector would complete a thorough visual inspection of the truck and then check all functions and complete a test drive to insure proper operation.
  • If the inspector found defects than we corrected the defects and turned it back into inspection where the inspector would either sign off on the work completed or reject it.
  • If completed the vehicle moved into the next step of the rebuilding process which was paint.
  • If the repairs were rejected, they were worked on till they were completed correctly according to the inspector, and only at that time was the vehicle allowed to move onto the next step of the rebuild process.

Additional Information

During my time at Red River, I was also over the TDY planning for the heavy tactical division. I conducted online conference calls with different branches and departments of the military and diagnosed their vehicles to the best of my ability and if we were not able to resolve their issues then I would put together a team of mechanics that specialized in that related field. Once the team was assembled, I would order the parts for said repair and schedule a trip for the mechanics to perform the necessary to get the vehicle operational often consulting with them over the phone to resolve issues that arose during their repairs. Once the repairs were completed, I then preformed a fallow up call with the personnel at the base to ensure the equipment was operating to their desired specifications.
