As a MHP at Counseling and Psychological Services on campus my internship aims at helping students deal with their mental health challenges by allowing peer to peer support.
Weekly meetings with cohorts of undergraduate students and one faculty/staff member and peer mentor. The faculty/staff member and peer mentor work together to facilitate sessions about study strategies, reading strategies, success strategies and mental health check ins. We work closely with the resources on campus to share these resources with the students in order to help them succeed.
Research fellow for Dr. Maricela Garcia Becerra. The research project “Mapping Feminist Social Media Activism in Mexico” aims to explore how social media functions as a digital archive of femicide cases in Mexico. Over 4,000 archives social media posts that document these cases are analyzed and mapped to highlight the impact of digital memorization and activism.
I aspire to work in a college or university setting in the future as a college counselor. I plan to enter a Master's program from either college counseling or behavioral/clinical psychology. After some time I’d love to receive my PhD and work as a psychology professor. I love working with college students and my goal is to give back to my community. I am a Latina woman with a chronic illness, and I hope to help college students navigate their academic journey when dealing with disabilities, diverse backgrounds, and all responsibilities that come with life.
