I am a Registered Nurse with extensive experience at Self Regional Cancer Center. I have been a nurse since 2002, starting my LPN career on a General Medical floor where I gained a great deal of experience with different physical skills such as IV placement, medication administration and patient assessments. I have a proven ability to enhance patient outcomes through evidence-based interventions to attempt to control side effects and holistic care. I possess strong critical thinking and mentorship skills ensuring high-quality care and patient satisfaction. I gained interest in the Oncology population of patients while pursuing my RN as we would have these patients on the medical floor from time to time while these patients were newly diagnosed, on active treatment or needed end of life care. In the infusion area, I am able to start a patient on their path of treatment and follow them until completion. I have been oncology certified for over 14 years.

Utilized critical thinking skills to prioritize nursing interventions based on patients acuity levels and individual needs as this can change with each treatment
Conducted thorough patient assessments to identify changes in condition, promptly notifying physicians and initiating appropriate interventions when necessary as our patients do not see their Medical Oncologist prior to each treatment. It is up to the nurse to determine the patient’s readiness for treatment.
Administered medications safely according to established guidelines while closely monitoring for side effects or adverse reactions requiring intervention. I have the knowledge and ability to respond to an infusion related reaction be it mild in severity to anaphylaxis.
Enhanced patient satisfaction by providing compassionate, holistic nursing care that addressed physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Provide a knowledgeable but caring bedside manner.
Assisted in the training and mentorship of new nursing staff members, contributing to a positive work environment even in stressful situations and high-quality patient care.
Prevented the spread of infections by consistently adhering to strict infection control protocols and educating patients on proper hygiene practices. Ability to perform tasks such as port access and care in neutropenic populations.

Improved patient outcomes by implementing evidence-based nursing interventions and individualized care plans. Each patient and their reactions to treatments are different and the education style must reflect this.

Provided support for patients and families during difficult medical decisions or end-of-life care, serving as a liaison between the healthcare team and loved ones. I am able to have the discussion to end treatment or seek palliative care through comfort and education as well as being an advocate for the patient.
Collaborated with interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive care plans for complex cases. We often discuss patients needs with social work as well as dietary and pharmacy staff.
Educated family members and caregivers on patient care instructions. Each medication/infusion may have specific instruction actions of things to avoid as well as practices to encourage for success.

Explained course of care and medication side effects to patients and caregivers in easy-to-understand terms. I provide a great deal of education to my patients, verbally as well as written materials.
