Responsible for assisting the nurse with specimen collection (drawing blood, collecting urine/stool samples), as well as vital signs. In addition to this I assist patients to the bathroom and help feed them if they are unable to do so. Just like the nurse I must also pay attention to the overall well being of the patient and alert the nurse if there is any sudden change.
I started my research journey in the lab of Dr. Cevdet Akbay researching chiral separation of surfactants using capillary electrophoresis. I then transitioned into doing bioanalytical research with Dr. Shubo Han where we are analyzing the ability of plants to absorb toxic chemicals that do not breakdown. This research with Dr. Shubo Han is nearing completion and I am currently in the process of writing a research paper. In addition to my research with Dr. Han, I have taken on photovoltaic research with Dr. Zhiping Luo. The research I am doing for Dr. Luo is going towards my graduation certificate in materials science. Through all these experiences I have become a confident researcher who can utilize a multitude of instruments by myself. These instruments include, but are not limited to capillary electrophoresis, LC-MS, ICP-OES, FluoroMax, XRD, DSC, and TGA.
At Cape Fear Valley Medical Center I worked on a general surgery and trauma unit. On this unit I assisted the nurse with vital signs and the patients with going to the bathroom, as well as bathing. While working here I learned more about effective communication, time management, and conflict resolution.
Under the supervision of Dr. Liu, a professor at the University of North Carolina of Wilmington I learned how to use R programming to create graphs, among other plots, in order to analyze data of harmful algae blooms in the Pamlico Sound.
As an office manager I organized vendor and customer files, as well as maintained the storage unit that housed the heating and cooling supplies used to install and fix AC units.
As a brand associate when I wasn't working as a cashier, I was working the floor helping to maintain the tidiness of the clothes and assist customers with any needs.
