Work History

RF Engineer (Postdoctoral Researcher)

Drexel University
08.2021 - Current
  • I developed and prototyped a handheld EMC antenna, Log-Periodic Antenna, for EMI/EMC pre-compliance testing, integral for military and commercial applications. Through novel techniques, I reduced its form factor, enabling man-portable broadband capabilities for small EMC test systems, ensuring product compliance and minimizing harmful interference and antenna measurement systems.
  • I developed a cutting-edge shipboard marine radar antenna-core system for naval vessels, reducing conventional antenna size by 60% while maintaining high performance. Successfully integrated into South Korea's naval fleet, it significantly enhances marine and coastal surveillance capabilities, supporting the Defense acquisition program.
  • I developed and tested a phased array antenna system for X-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) applications on small satellites, integrated into South Korea's NEXTSat 2 microsatellites. The recent launch of eight of these satellites using South Korea's indigenous space rocket Nuri (KSLV-2) is a significant milestone for the country's space program. Sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT, this technology aims to monitor Arctic Sea ice and predict climate changes, with research findings published in journals like MDPI Sensors and IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, showcasing advancements in SAR satellite technology.
  • I developed a specialized dipole antenna called the cross-printed dipole array for radio direction finding (RDF) applications. RDF involves determining the direction and origin of a signal source using directional antennas and triangulation methods. This technology is crucial for locating individuals during emergencies, leveraging the consistent emission of electromagnetic signals from cell phones. By employing this antenna, designed specifically for detecting people in buildings during emergencies, we can potentially aid in rescue operations during disasters such as building fires or natural calamities.
  • I designed 24GHz microwave radar antenna sensors for Doppler speed measurement in traffic control. Compact and lightweight, these directional patch antennas easily install atop traffic light poles, aiding in curbing high-speed driving. Offering advantages over in-road sensors, they reduce maintenance costs and minimize wear on road pavement, enhancing traffic control while preserving road quality.
  • I am currently researching intelligent surfaces, millimeter-wave reconfigurable antennas, and wearable antenna sensors for 5G and beyond, as well as medical IoT applications.
