I was born to be a nurse. I'm one of the lucky ones that knew what I wanted to do without question. I am blessed to love what I do. I graduated from High School and went directly to college to get my Bachelor's in Nursing. I graduated in 1999 and have now been a nurse for almost 25 years. I am dedicated, respectful, and compassionate to all of my patients whether we get along or not. I have a progressive career history in direct patient care, triage, and care coordination in fast-paced environment. I am known to remain calm under pressure and skillfully handle difficult patients and high-stress situations. I am consistently developing strong relationships with patients, their families, and coworkers through clear communication, empathy, a respectful attitude, and excellent listening skills. I often hear what is not said and have the "triage" experience to ask the right questions to get to the root of things.
My most recent experience has been as Team Lead for the NH Cardiology office in Elkin. Prior to my Team Lead position I worked in CVPP working alongside Cardiologist and staff in pre and post unit for Cath Lab, EP, CNI, and IR, in the ED at FMC and KMC, and on the ambulance with Critical Care Transport.
In these roles I have become very skilled in triaging, assessing, critically thinking and planning for the next step in a patient's care, educating and explaining diagnoses to patients, administering medications, monitoring telemetry/EKG's, pulling arterial sheaths/removing a TR Band, monitoring a patients hemodynamics and watching for bleeding, and performing stress test. I have become good at figuring out where break down in communication is and helping others come to a place of understanding and common ground.
I worked PRN as a float nurse in all of the adult ICU's and ED at WFBH.
Worked briefly with home health staying overnight with patients requiring care at home. This care consisted of turning, trach care, bathing, administration of medications, and skin care.
I worked at an Acute Care Rehab as a staff nurse.
I volunteered as a camp nurse at a kids-teen Christian camp in Fairbanks, AK.
I worked on a renal telemetry floor at Methodist Hospital Southlake Campus.
I worked in the float pool going throughtout the hospital to Med-Surg, Intermediate Care, ICU, Ortho, Mother Baby, Behavioral Health, Pediatrics, and the Chest Pain units.
I started and a student nurse on the post surgical unit and then became a nurse and worked as a nurse on the same unit. I eventually moved into a charge nurse role on night shift. I was afraid of becoming too complacent and comfortable working on the same floor and took a job as a float nurse to challenge myself.
24(almost 25) years of Direct patient care in numerous settings
Very strong assessment and critical thinking skills
Triage in many forms from ED to CCT and deciphering where a patient needed to go and what orders to get for the trip to talking with patients on the phone that are at home and have symptoms or questions
Confident with starting IV's/drawing labs
Confident with administering medications/titrating drips
Good EKG and telemetry interpretation in hospital, ambulance, office, stress test settings
Excellent communicating, problem solving, process improvement, and educating
I am a remarkable listener and have a gift of letting people know they are heard
Good understanding and ability to explain cardiac testing procedures, diagnoses, and results
I am as passionate about dogs as I am about the patients I care for. Running and be with my dogs ( I have 5 of them right now) is how I decompress after an overstimulating day at work. I help out family and friends by dog sitting when they have to go out of town. I create an at home experience for their pups with interactions they would experience at home. Road tripping to see new places and my family is something that brings me joy and enriches my life. The majority of my family lives in Indiana, so visits with them are always like a holiday celebration. I love words. I love to write, get my thoughts out of my head and give emotions a voice to help me process through all I'm experiencing. I often read non fiction books expanding my understanding on people, connecting with people, communicating with people, and growing a deeper relationship with God.
