I am applying to express my enthusiastic interest in becoming an RA at Marquette next year. While I am currently only a Freshman, I am excited about the possible opportunity to contribute to the Marquette community while simultaneously working towards a Psychology degree. I am committed to maintaining a balance between my academic responsibilities and a desire to create a positive residential environment for new and returning students alike. While I currently reside in Straz Tower and have thoroughly enjoyed my experience with the Nuestro Hogar program, I am always open to working with diverse groups of residents in any given hall. I am always ready and willing to assist fellow students with various tasks, whether it be coursework, personal issues, or roommate disagreements. Growing up as the eldest child and working as a babysitter, I have very developed interpersonal skills that would be well suited for this position. A responsible Resident Assistant encourages individual self-sufficiency while still offering a helping hand to Marquette's residents, and I believe that I can fulfill that role. I focus on individuals' unique needs and comforts, and I would strive to create nurturing environment for building meaningful relationships not only amongst and with residents, but their families as well. I have mastered remaining patient and calm in difficult situations that may involve harsh words or actions, and I am familiar with how important problem-solving skills can be as an RA from my own time in the dorms. I have been referred to as easy to speak with and am hoping to be a source of comfort and confidentiality to students away from home. I am also capable of being an authority figure who will not hesitate to tell residents to be respectful of others boundaries and the building itself, and will report if offenses are repeated or if a situation becomes dangerous or should be handled by officials. I look forward to discussing how my skills align with the goals of the Residence Life team.
