I assisted with special events and programs. We had several Drives to collect money, hygiene products, and other necessary supplies the shelter asked for. We had two fundraisers. The first fundraiser was a fun run, where when donated they were able to participate in a fun run, along the way we created poster that taught them about homelessness in the Czech Republic. The second event was a soap making event were we taught people the importance of having the opportunity to have good hygiene. At this event we were able to raise money.
We were able to go and interact with the women of the shelter and make christmas cookies with them, and helped them feel like part of the community. Since I speak Czech (The local language of the Czech Republic) another one of my roles was directly communicating with the people that work directly at the shelter, with them I was bale to discuss what exactly they needed help with.
Within our School community we had many Ukrainian refugees who joined in the middle of the school year, alongside making them feel welcomed we also held a "Party in the Park" for refugee women in children who were stuck in Prague. We offered food and had students do different activities with the children, while the Czech speaking students and teacher held lessons for the Ukrainian mothers and taught them the things they needed to be able to survive in the Czech Republic, such as what the translation was at grocerie stores, or how to communicate at hospitals and doctor offices
