I was raised on a farm in a remote area of southern Chile. I have always enjoyed taking a leading role on our farm, in particular, working with our horses and solving the practical problems that farm life presents. This has led to a love for outdoor activities, including climbing and backpacking. Another longstanding interest has been working with children. I have been a head consoler for summer camp as well as unit consoler for our church youth club. Because I speak Spanish fluently, I easily completed an English as a Second Language course and enjoy teaching English to children when I have the opportunity. I have a love for learning, and particularly find wilderness medicine and survival, home remedies and phycology very rewarding to study. Since I was very little, I have gravitated to taking care of sick and injured people and animals. I was the kid that fed activated charcoal to the chickens when they got sick and sutured my dad's hand when he cut it with the angle grinder. Two of my favorite characters in history are Clara Barton and Florence Nightingale. I aspire to be like them. Most recently I have been working for Johnston county EMS. I love my job and hope to continue my education in the EMS field when the opportunity presents itself. Now that I've gotten used to the EMS world i'm hoping to get a second job and save up some money before tackling paramedic school.
