- Perform a variety of assessments and observations to determine the areas in which the student may need extra or modified educational services. Assessment areas may include academic performance, behavior, and social development.
- Identifies the students needs and develops related lesson and teaching plans.
- Develops an integrated plan for the education of each child by collaborating with classroom teachers, parents, psychologists, social workers, and other medical and school staff.
- Develops individualized education programs (IEPs) for each student, setting learning goals and adopting modifications as necessary; ensures each students activities and lessons are planned and organized according to his/her abilities.

Manage and direct the special education team in the development and provision of specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities within the school, evaluate and assess student progress against instructional objectives, and functions as IEP and 504 case manager to assigned students.
- Plan and conduct bi-weekly team meetings to discuss student progress, provide training as needed, discuss data collection and update staff on school happenings.
- Work closely with the Compliance Coordinator to ensure that deadlines are met for IEPs, 504s and other related areas to ensure school remains in compliance with the district and state standards.
- Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to best support student ability levels.
- Collaborate with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop an achievement-based IEP for each student that meets the students educational needs and documents progress throughout the school year.
