- Assists in thinning projects for designated compartments by using a HUSQVARNA chainsaw and cutting down junipers, piñons, and brush that meet project requirements.
- Uses EMT knowledge to provide initial treatment for injuries incurred during fires such as burns, bug bites, dehydration, heat related illness, and muscle injuries.
- Patrols the line looking for hotspots, flare ups, and slop overs that could negatively impact the green side of the line. Immediately takes steps to mitigate the threat to the line.
- Participates in constructing line by using hand tools in order to protect archeological sites, structures, and to slow the progression of the fire.

- Worked with Forest Service personnel to complete prescribed burns ranging from 500-2,000 acres in order to preserve and better the forest.
- Performed prep work before the prescribed burn in order to protect the endangered Red-cockaded woodpecker and to rid the line of hazard trees and ladder fuels.
- Used a drip torch and different patterns in order to burn compartments. Completed burns alongside other burners and ensured that the proper formation was maintained during the burn to prevent injury or entrapment.
- Was assigned to different roles during each burn such as being the burner, riding in the engine to take care of cat faces and spots, or holding along the line being burned.
- Assisted in removal of pine trees across the road after a tornado by using a STIHL chainsaw.
- Helped maintain equipment in working order by sharpening tools, cleaning UTVs, and maintaining the trucks stocked.
