I have been employed for 12 years working in education. Even when I was a stay of home mom, I still tutored in math and even home school some tennis player from 8th grade until they graduated. One of them went on the college and had no problem getting into college. So education has been part of my life for over 30 years
While working in the Intensive Math classroom, I had students for which I was responsible. I did all the roles of a teacher: planning, teaching, grading, contacting the parents if necessary and discipline. The program RMA used was called Corrective Math. It was a really good program that made sure the students mastered the skill before moving one. The teacher and I were able to help our students learn so much that around 73% of our students tested out of our class last year.
At RMA, I also have been asked to be long term subs for math teachers. I have done that three times. The classes I have subbed for includes: advanced 7th grade math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra and Geometry.
While working at Manatee School of the Arts and Science I was their Sign Language teacher. This job I did two days a week. I would travel from classroom to classroom teaching the students. This gave the teachers a chance to have a planning time. The other 3 days of the week I was the technology person. I would help with any technology problems teachers and students might have.
While working at Manatee High School I was a sign language interpreter. I would travel from class to class with my students. Sometimes I just needed to support my students by taking notes and making sure that they knew when homework was due or when there was a test. Other times I had to sign everything the teacher said. There would also be one period a day that the students would be in our resource room. During that time I would help them with any work they needed. There was also times that we had students that were not mainstreamed. When that was the case, I would help teach those students life skills. I was the only interpreter that liked math, so I would go to all the math classes. I loved learning new ways to teach math while in the classroom.
