As an intern with the city of Orange, facilitated through a collaborative initiative between Montclair State University, PSE&G, and Sustainable Jersey, I actively addressed energy challenges within low- and moderate-income (LMI) communities. This unique internship experience provided an immersive and impactful opportunity to merge academic insights with practical application, fostering sustainable energy practices, mitigating energy burdens for vulnerable communities, and better city planning.

Community Outreach and Engagement:

• Spearheaded targeted outreach campaigns to inform LMI residents about available state-sponsored energy programs.
• Collected data for the city to conduct workshops to educate residents on energy-efficient practices, emphasizing the economic benefits of participating in the programs.

Partnership Development:

• Collaborated with local nonprofits, community organizations, and houses of worship to amplify the reach of energy assistance programs.
• Assisted in ensuring that LMI communities were informed about and had access to available resources.

Data Analysis and Reporting with GIS:

• Have conducted comprehensive data analysis using town data to identify areas with the highest energy burdens and prioritize outreach efforts.
• Generated reports detailing the impact of implemented programs on energy consumption and cost savings within LMI communities.
• I generated a map of the city's heat maps to see which areas produce more energy and geo-coded locations to which the city wanted to start spreading the word about these energy programs. This was also the purpose of my undergraduate Thesis.

Advocacy for Sustainable Urban Development:

• Actively participated in planning meetings with the town representative and Sustainable Jersey and discussions, advocating for sustainable urban development strategies that prioritize the needs of LMI residents.
• Contributed insights and recommendations to ongoing urban planning projects to ensure inclusivity and equitable resource access.
