Essay Q&A

Question: Why is an apprenticeship program a better fit for you than a full-time role would be at this time? What do you hope to leave this 18-month program with OR How will this program help you achieve your long-term career goals?

Answer: An apprenticeship works better at this time for me because it allows for me to gain real world experience while being under the title of a student. Mentorship has been something i have desired for some time as an avid self learner and I believe this program will allow me to gain that and many foundational IT Skills in more of a structured environment. This program can serve as a launching pad to my future career as a cybersecurity professional particularly as a Security Engineer.

Question: Share an example of a time when you took the initiative to gain new skills or knowledge. How did you approach this? What resources or methods do you find most effective for growing as a professional in the workplace?

Answer: The past few months i have taken advantage of learning general cybersecurity concepts and skills by taking the Google Cybersecurity certificate and gaining hands on knowledge with SQL,Linux and Network Security. I have also used blue team training platforms such as Tryhackme to learn utilization of tools that are deployed in everyday SOC environments. I believe that taking advantage of mentors and online forums filled with motivated IT professionals can aid in the growth of any professional in this field. Ranging from solutions to common IT troubleshoots or being provided a safe haven for shared learning this has been the method that has aided me so far in my long journey as a Technology savant.
