Responsibilities include building medium and heavy duty trucks and trailers to customer specifications. This involves installing all aspects of required systems such as hydraulics and electrical to welding and fabricating.
Other duties include mechanical repairs, troubleshooting, and fabrication/ welding of trucks and trailers.
Also deliver trucks and trailers to customers or to other company locations.
Foreman/Manager Role: Responsible for tracking equipment hours using telematics, coordinating necessary preventative maintenance with mechanics and job superintendents. Responsible for ensuring that the shop and mechanics are equipped with tooling, parts, and information needed to perform any assigned task, efficiently and as cost effective as possible.
Also as shop foreman I am tasked with making sure that the shop is stocked with necessary parts and consumables for routine maintenance and unexpected repairs. Responsible for communication with vendors/ suppliers to ensure sufficient supply of items such as bulk oils, DEF, filters, welding supplies, truck tires, etc. Negotiate with and price check vendors to ensure that we are getting the most cost effective product.
Often operate machinery, drive dump trucks/ lowbed, or labor on the ground if there is a lack of personnel.
Mechanic Role: Responsible for maintenance and repair of any tools and machinery associated with construction. This ranges from saws and pumps to heavy equipment and dump trucks. Duties include scheduling preventative maintenance and facilitating most efficient repairs of unscheduled breakdowns.
Performed major repairs on a wide variety of equipment. Repairs ranged from hydraulic and electrical system diagnosis and repair to work such as replacing complete undercarriages and removing/ replacing major components such as axles and other powertrain components.
Mechanics were responsible for ordering their own parts and ensuring parts were ordered correctly to ensure no delays to complete jobs.
Performed multiple certified powertrain rebuilds and a complete certified rebuild on a D10N. They were long term jobs that were closely budgeted and required thoughtful time and process management.
