• I worked as a Sterile Processing Technician on the 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. shift. We worked closely with the main operating room and other clinics. Processing all hospital gear with precision and excellence in a meticulous, fast-paced environment.

Due to my son getting out of homeschooling and back into public school, I needed to switch to a day position. Because they had no availability, I was forced to move on.

• The majority of my service was at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, working in the general clinic and as a Sterile Processing Technician.
• Prepared and maintained medical equipment for routine procedures and emergencies.
• Assisted in patient assessments and monitored vital signs for accuracy.
• Collaborated with medical teams to ensure effective patient care delivery.
• Organized patient charts, updated information into electronic health records system.

As a Sterile Processing Technician, I had the same general duties and universal procedures as listed in the above job experience at Sentara Leigh Hospital.

In addition to this, though I had general duties as a sailor, I had command collateral duties that included COVID test administration outside on hospital grounds, as well as joining and regularly training with the Hospital Emergency Response Team and Hazmat Team. I also had a number of important department duties, including the responsibility of totally overhauling the organization of our medical instruments, in our storage, and in the database, which made the efficiency of our work overall much faster.

I got out in 2021, transferring my skills to the civilian sector.
