Anya Hammond

After graduating from college, I took a hiatus from working to care for my sick father for almost two years. I enrolled in the Veterans Affairs Caregiver Program to be certified as an at-home caregiver for my father until his death in March 2025. During that period of time, I gained the following knowledge and skills:

• Assisting a senior with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding, adjusting, and grooming;
• Monitoring and administering medication;
• Observing the Veteran's change in health, whether that is physical or mental, and assisting with pain management;
• Being an advocate for a patient in hospice.

• Taught kids from the ages of 5 to 13 a variety of skills ranging from floating to endurance sets.
• Managed other swim instructors to ensure they were correcting and teaching the child with the appropriate techniques and encouragement.
• Placed each child in their respective group, ensuring they were assigned with other swimmers who matched their abilities.
• Informed the parents about upcoming events and concerns regarding their child.

• Cautioned swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards.
• Monitored behaviors for safety violations and took steps to prevent further violations.
• Checked weather reports to warn public of potential inclement weather and proper safety procedures.
• Performed regular cleaning and maintenance of pool equipment.
