Statement of Purpose

  • I am applying to the Master of Science in Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning program at Boise State University to further develop my ability to lead, train, and improve systems that support both individuals and organizations. My professional journey as the owner of St. Fillan’s, LLC, a Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP), and a substitute teacher has shaped my commitment to service, leadership, and continuous improvement. With a Bachelor of Science in Health Science, I have built a strong foundation in human-centered care, and I am now seeking advanced training to expand my impact through organizational development and workplace learning.
  • As the owner of St. Fillan’s, LLC, a residential habilitation agency providing staffing support to adults with developmental and physical disabilities, I have gained extensive experience in leadership, operations, and workforce management. Throughout my career, I have been responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising staff, as well as ensuring compliance with state regulations and maintaining high standards of care. In this role, I implemented structured onboarding and training practices that improved staff preparedness and consistency in service delivery, state and federal compliance, and client wellbeing and safety. As a result, I observed stronger employee performance and more reliable continuity of care for clients. Additionally, by refining scheduling and communication processes, I improved operational efficiency and reduced last-minute staffing gaps, allowing for more stable and dependable support for the individuals we serve. These experiences reinforced my interest in building scalable systems that enhance both employee performance and organizational outcomes.
  • In my role as a Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional, I have coordinated care, developed individualized safety and support plans, and worked collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to meet the complex needs of clients. Through consistent monitoring and adjustment, I contributed to improved client engagement and progress toward personal goals, including increased independence in daily living activities and community engagement. This work has strengthened my skills in assessment, communication, and program implementation while deepening my understanding of how well-designed systems can drive meaningful outcomes.
  • My experience as a substitute teacher has further enhanced my ability to facilitate learning in diverse and fast-paced environments. I have adapted to a variety of classrooms, delivering instruction while maintaining structure and engagement. By quickly establishing clear expectations and a positive classroom environment, I have been able to maintain continuity of learning and minimize disruptions, supporting both student success and instructional effectiveness. This role has reinforced my understanding of how people learn and the importance of flexibility, communication, and preparation in achieving successful outcomes.
  • The OPWL program at Boise State University stands out to me because of its emphasis on real-world application, performance improvement, and workplace learning. I am especially interested in developing skills in instructional design, needs assessment, and organizational development. I am drawn to the program’s practical approach, which will allow me to directly apply what I learn to my current work and future career goals. I am particularly motivated to build systems that enhance employee training, improve retention, and ultimately lead to better outcomes for the individuals served.
  • My long-term goal is to expand my leadership within my organization while also contributing to the broader field of organizational development and workplace learning. I aim to design and implement effective training programs, improve organizational systems, and support workforce development in a way that creates lasting, meaningful impact. I am passionate about helping both employees and clients succeed, and I believe that strengthening workplace learning is key to achieving this.
  • I am confident that my professional experience, academic background, and commitment to growth make me a strong candidate for this program. I am eager to contribute to and learn from the OPWL community at Boise State University. Thank you for considering my application.
