Completed 144 hours of patient care. Each student was assigned a Preceptor and allowed to manage the care of patients with direct supervision of a Senior Nurse. Students were always encouraged to start IVs, perform glucose testing, draw blood, familiarize themselves with EPIC, and give report. Students were taught delegation, prioritization, and the foundations of care planning. Organizing workflow, documentation, report, and critical thinking was heavily reinforced. Patient assessments, vitals, medication administration, foley care, tube feedings, trach care, IVs, etc. Emphasis on acute patient care, analysis of patient records/lab values, proper hand-off reports, and EHR charting. Safety practices and policies were reviewed often for creating safe habits. Focused on managing the complexities of Cardiac care with common comorbidities.
