Work History

Police Officer

Yale University
04.2013 - Current
  • As a Police Officer at Yale University, my primary functions include community patrols via marked police vehicles and/or police bicycles in and around the Yale University and surrounding New Haven area, handling routine calls for service such as burglar, fire, and panic alarms, motor vehicle enforcement when necessary, and more serious calls regarding assaults, burglaries, domestic violence situations, stalking incidents, and sexual assaults and harassment. A great deal of time on patrol includes connecting with people from the community via face-to-face interactions or, on a lesser scale, communication via telephone and/or email.
  • From 2015 to 2020, I served as a department-certified Crime Scene Technician with skills in processing and documenting scenes where burglaries, robberies, or assaults had occurred; using skills such as digital photography, lifting latent fingerprints from objects such as windows, and collecting touch DNA from most surfaces that have potentially been disturbed during the commission of crimes.
  • Since the summer of 2019, I have served as the Yale University Police Department Peer Support Team Coordinator and have my ministry license to serve as the YUPD Police Chaplain. In those roles, I am committed to serving the spiritual and mental health of the department members and their families, maintaining confidentiality when needed to best ensure their mental, spiritual, and physical well-being. I have been trained through CABLE (Connecticut Alliance Benefiting Law Enforcement) in the areas of Crisis Intervention Team Training and Peer Support Team Training.
  • Starting in May 2024, I began working as the YUPD Sensitive Crimes & Support Coordinator. In this role, I serve as a liaison between the police department and victims of sensitive crimes such as sexual assaults, robberies, burglaries, harassment, and stalking. I also meet with people one-on-one and in group settings to address safety concerns and provide them with resources related to their physical safety, protecting their online information, and information about applying for protective orders. I regularly meet with different departments within the university such as Title IX, the University-Wide Committee on Sexual Misconduct, and the Office of Institutional Equity and Accessibility in providing resources as well.

Religious Program Specialist Petty Officer

United States Navy Reserve
01.2016 - 01.2022
  • As a Religious Program Specialist, I served as a Chaplain's Assistant by serving as an administrative assistant to Navy Chaplains assigned to United States Marine Corps units. Duties are mostly administrative, where I make and keep appointments for the Chaplain, attend and support in special military ceremonies such as Change of Command and promotion ceremonies, and setting up and taking down chapel services in buildings and in the field.

Paraprofessional

Fair Haven PreK-8 School
02.2012 - 04.2013
  • Serving in a first-grade classroom of 20-22 children, I assisted the classroom teacher in running programs such as morning meeting, reading and writing programs, grading homework assignments, and attending the students at lunch in the cafeteria and outside for recess. I also served in the after-school program that served first through fifth graders five days a week. Being bilingual in English and Spanish, I was able to communicate with most students' parents about their children's progress and behavior.

Chief Instructor

Dynamic Martial Arts
09.2006 - 05.2012
  • As Chief Instructor of a martial arts school, I was responsible for teaching most of the classes, teaching students from age 3 years old to adult in all rank and experience levels. In addition to teaching classes six days a week, I was also responsible for conducting belt advancement tests, in-school tournaments and demonstrations, and karate birthday parties and summer camp sessions. I was responsible for processing tuition payments and communicating with parents and caregivers about scheduling and general questions. I would teach private and semi-private lessons and conduct private advancement tests when necessary. Over my years of teaching, I have had the pleasure of advancing many students in rank, including three students I trained from white belt to black belt.

Service Advisor

Dan Perkins Chevrolet
01.2005 - 08.2006
  • As a service advisor, I had the responsibility of being the liaison between the customer and the technician performing the work on the vehicle; being in constant contact with customers over the phone or in person as to the needs of their vehicles and, when necessary, being in contact with factory warranty and extended warranty companies to facilitate repairs to the customer's vehicle.
