Patient Assessment & Preparation: Perform pre-op assessments, verify patient identity, confirm
consent, and confirm the exact surgical site.
Safety Verification: Conduct "time-outs" to review patient history, allergies, and the planned
procedure.
Environment Setup: Ensure all surgical equipment, implants, and instrumentation are sterilized,
functioning properly, and available.
Assisted in safely positioning patients on the operating table to prevent nerve damage.: Help safely position the patient to prevent nerve damage and allow optimal
exposure for the surgeons.
Sterility Management: Monitor the surgical team and the room to strictly maintain a sterile
environment and prevent infections.
Surgical Counts: Conduct required surgical counts of sponges, needles, and instruments prior to
and at the close of the operation to ensure nothing is retained.
Medication Administration: Manage, document, and administer required medications or
intravenous fluids on the sterile field
Clinical Documentation: Chart every aspect of the surgical procedure, medications, and team
involvement in the patient's record for legal and medical tracking.
Team Coordination & Support: Act as the information gatekeeper, coordinating with anesthesia
providers, communicating progress with the patient's family, and obtaining any needed supplies
from outside the OR.
Patient Monitoring: Assess the patient's condition as they emerge from anesthesia, monitoring
vital signs and checking for post-surgical complications.
Safe Transport: Assist with transferring the patient safely to the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit
