Fruit Fly Laboratory, University of Rochester

Dissected over 100 fruit flies
Learned multiple microscopic techniques, and utilized several lab methods like PCR, electrophoresis and centrifugation
Outlined 3 laboratory experiments
Performed 1 experiment to measure aggression in male fruit flies (Drosophila).
In the experiment, we took two groups of drosophila (wild type and mutant type (mutant type had a gene inserted in it that modified aggression gene)) and put them in 3 different vials. All the flies were strictly male because males show increased aggression towards each other. One group had 2 mutant type flies, one had 2 wild-type flies and the other had 2 of each type of fly. We then counted how many times each group of fly showed aggression to the other (there were certain gestures that they made and we counted each time these gestures were made).
