Led clinical trial conception, design and execution to address cardiovascular outcomes in response to use of positive airway pressure devices in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Recruiting rate of 10 patients/week. Ongoing study.
Led research project aimed at discovering potential genetic susceptibility to COVID-19 infection among Latino population. This collaborative initiative involved teams from both US and Mexico. Received responses from 1300 participants, of which 405 were recruited for study. Currently, in process of analyzing collected data.
Led research project to analyze cardiovascular and metabolic outcomes of exposure to concomitant intermittent and sustained hypoxia in animal mouse model mimicking COPD-OSA overlap syndrome. Manuscript in preparation.
Led research project using mathematical algorithms to calculate heart rate variability associated with apnea events and relationship with development of subclinical atherosclerosis. Manuscript in preparation.
