I have over 25 years evaluating the formability status of draw panels along with trouble shooting issues while working in the Formability lab at Stellantis and would like to share knowledge with the up and coming diemaker apprentices.
As a Formability Analyst, my responsibilities include the following
job requirements: Analyze and document the quality/formability of an example of all parts produced in the pressroom and provide a detailed report ( Graphs/FLD Curves) to management that explains safety level of the part and the condition of the tooling producing the part. The following tools are utilized in the process;
An ultra-sound , Argus computer Software and circle grid analysis to document the necessary information.
As a DieMaker, my responsibilities include the following: building/maintenance/tryout of all steel forming and piercing dies. The requirements involve the operation of all large/small milling/drilling machines and surface grinders along with reading blue prints and handwork on the bench.
My responsibilities at Hope tool were the following: Boring mill operator, bridgeport operator, drill press operator, surface grinder hand, tryout of progressive/ line dies and extrusion dies. We worked from blue prints and sketches in the manufacturing of new tooling.
New Die Construction
