Ashley Fitzgerald

• Prepare the clinic team for upcoming patients
• Obtain medical/surgical/family history
• Work closely with breast cancer patients(2019-2024), GI cancer patients (2025-current) providing physical/mental/emotional support via phone calls, in-person office visits and MyChart communication
• Determine acuity of upcoming surgeries (document and assess compliance with accreditation guidelines for surgery)
• Navigate patients through all aspects of surgery (orders, referrals, tumor board recommendations)
• Equip patients with tools and knowledge needed for speedy and sustained recovery
• Communicate with cross-functional team to deliver the high level of patient-centered care

PACU RN

• Prepare pre-op patients for surgery, collect required documents/labs/signatures prior to surgery
• Closely observe patients recovering from anesthesia with 2:1 patient to nurse ratio

Surgical Oncology/ Medical-Surgical RN

• Manage care from admission to discharge
• Assess, help determine, and implement a plan of care
• Provide patient education and support to pre/post surgical patient
• Epidural assessment/maintenance/care
• 24 bed unit: Primary patient population includes Surgical Oncology and pre/post abdominal surgery for acute/chronic illness

Additional roles

Charge Nurse

• Assesses acuity of patients on unit
• Produce RN assignments for oncoming shift based on acuity and team capability
• Delegate tasks and encourage teamwork on unit
• Conduct huddle at change of shift, highlighting important information about the needs of the unit

Student Nurse and New Nurse Preceptor:

• Prepare clinical activities specific to the level of the learner
• Directly observe student learning activities on unit
• Provide mentorship to students and nurses to develop confidence in their new role

• Assist MDs and RNs with collection of data, blood/lab draws on hospital patients
• Observation of Operating Room surgeries
• Follow up phone calls with local TB and heart valve patients about medications and treatments
• Document and file collected data
