Background
I am an accomplished and enthusiastic TESOL teacher with thirteen years of teaching experience. During the past 10 years, I have worked with adolescent newcomer-advanced students in a high school setting. I have taught in both EL ELA classrooms and in content area classrooms, such as Government, Sociology and Modern World History. In a SIOP setting, I have co-taught in math, social studies, and science classes.
Philosophy
I believe that my students are amazing people who will grow and succeed when they feel a sense of belonging. I build relationships with my students to build their confidence and feeling of worthiness in my classroom. I use my knowledge of my students to make connections and scaffold their English language acquisition. My lessons reflect student-centered and student-specific content that is relatable and meaningful to my unique and diverse student population. I monitor (and notice) my students’ achievements and learning needs in all language domains in order to set individual student growth measurements and target goals.
Leadership Experience
I have experience in a variety of leadership positions. I have served as the department lead for the TESOL department at Westland High School since 2017. I have also served on the RTI team and PBIS team and am currently the MTSS Team lead teacher. I was the Summer School Coordinator for the 22-23 school year. In addition, I have also served on curriculum development teams, the i3 CIF team, and the Growth Mindset team.
