Summary

In summation, my work ethic, my impeccable attendance record, my 20+ years of experience working with 3-6 year-old children, and my love of this age group – especially the 4-5 year-olds – should more than qualify me for the position of Teachers’ Aide for the pre-K aged students.

Teacher’s Aide

Over the Rainbow Pre-School
Bordentown
09.2023 - 07.2025
  • I transitioned quickly to working full-time at the Over the Rainbow Pre-School in Bordentown, New Jersey where I worked as a teacher’s aide for students aged 2-5. My strength was with the 4-5 year olds, but management had me work with the younger children, which, to be honest, was not my strength. This led to my increased anxiety at work, which led to my being asked to step away from working at Over the Rainbow. I left on good terms with the school.
  • Supervised children during playtime, ensuring safety and engagement.
  • Established positive relationships with students, parents, fellow teachers and school administrators.

Teaching Assistant

Doane Academy
Burlington
09.2005 - 06.2023
  • As a candidate for the position of Teachers’ Aide, I do so with extensive experiential learning in child care gained over 18 years of service at Doane Academy, as a supervisor of the Sensory Trailer at the Philadelphia Phillies home games for the past 3 years, and, as a teacher’s aide at the Over the Rainbow preschool.
  • Soon after graduating from Doane Academy, I began employment at that school charged with a variety of tasks, including filing, preparing mailings, stocking office supplies and duplicating materials. As I continued my employment there, I continued with these tasks but because of occasional needs in the classroom, I began helping the PreK and K teachers as needed – overseeing nap times, watching the children at recess, and helping the students at lunch time. When the school implemented a Montessori influenced approach for those students, my role with the students increased while my clerical duties decreased. It was during this time that I began to truly enjoy working with these young students. Seeing them on a more regular basis enabled me to better understand this age group collectively but also to better understand each individual student. It was during this time that I knew that “child care” was my true calling.
  • It was during the “Montessori” few years that I also discovered my ability to work with students who were showing signs of being on the Autism Spectrum. I became the “go-to” individual when those individual students needed one-on-one attention. I learned to be patient but firm with them when they began acting out – taking them out of the classroom to look at our pet iguana, or, if the weather were nice, walking outside on a beautiful campus. It was this experience that led me to my present job of working for the Phillies at their Sensory Trailer, which is designed as a place individuals can go who are experiencing sensory overload.
  • My involvement with students continued, but changed dramatically when it was decided to move the PreK/K programs back to the more traditional educational model. During these years, my role focused more on supervising the students at recess, lunch, and naptime. I also began helping supervise the students in our “AfterCare Program,” where students were placed after the normal school hours as they waited until their parents were able to come an pick them up.
  • During the Pandemic Years, as we kept school open, my role was expanded to helping keep the school environment sanitized – I routinely sanitized door knobs, railings, etc. the school, as well as supervising the students at recess, nap time, and lunch. I was also given the added responsibility of watching the children first thing in the morning when their parents dropped them off, before the staff was required to be on campus.
  • I began asking for a more expanded role in working with students when I was told at the end of May 2023 that there was no longer a position for me at Doane Academy. This came as a shock, since I have never had a negative evaluation, and my attendance has been exemplary. So, after 18 years of working at Doane Academy, where I discovered my calling of working with 3- to 6-year-old children, I am seeking employment to do just that.
  • Assisted teachers in preparing classroom materials and resources.
  • Supervised children and participated with children in activities.
