My motivation to join Connors State College Livestock Team is to enhance my abilities in raising and showing livestock, to collaborate with peers and professionals in the livestock showing community, and to build skills that will be applicable to beginning my veterinary career.
My name is Ashley Womack. I am a senior at Miller County High School in Colquitt, Georgia. I have been accepted into Troy State University and I plan to start in the fall of 2023. Throughout my high school career, I have participated in several clubs and teams where I have demonstrated leadership roles and services. I have also participated in several community service roles within my hometown and community.
As a high school student, I have been a member of the Miller County Marching Band for seven years. Throughout those seven years, I have been a band officer for all four of my high school years. Beginning in ninth grade, I was selected as Feature Twirler, a position I have held through my twelfth grade year. With this selection, I was placed in charge of the color guard team where I organized choreography, organized, and placed orders for props and halftime equipment.
In addition to the High School Band program, I was also Vice President of my freshman and sophomore class, where I was in charge of assisting the President and arranging monthly meetings in order to create school activities. Because of my leadership roles that were demonstrated during my freshman and sophomore years, I was elected as President of my Junior and Senior Class. While being President of my junior class, I organized and planned the Jr-Sr Prom. My senior year as President has allowed me to continue my leadership skills while helping to plan the graduation ceremony and organize honors day events within my school. I was also able to host the governor for a day at my school.
I have also participated and held offices within the Future Farmers of America within my high school. I was elected as a student advisor my tenth grade year and sentinel my eleventh grade year. With these offices, I was in charge or helping to organize FFA activities and trips around the state of Georgia. I was also asked to be an agriculture presenter on our schools yearly Farm Day. I was able to share my livestock animals that I raise on my farm and educate students on the importance of agriculture in our community.
In addition to my involvement in FFA, I have been an active 4-H member for 9 years. While in the 4-H I have shown hogs, steer and heifers in the county, state fair and state livestock shows. I have also participated in jackpot and prospect shows in the surrounding states in order to grow my knowledge of livestock. Recently, I received Reserve Grand Champion Gilt in the Dale County Jackpot Show in Dothan Alabama. I also won Reserve Grand Champion Gilt in the local county hog show in Seminole County, Georgia. I placed 2nd and 3rd in the state show with my gilt and barrow. While at the state show, I was pulled into the final drive for showmanship in the Senior Division and placed 3rd in my Steer Weight Class. Most recent, I won Grand Champion Steer in the Seminole County Cow Show and won overall Senior Showmanship. It has been a great year!
Throughout my community involvement, I have been a volunteer co-coach at my local dance studio, Persnickety Studios for the last seen years. Suring the last three years, I have been lead coach for our competition teams in baton twirling and dance. During this opportunity, I was able to help choreograph dances that were performed on the Disney stage in Disney World. My baton twirling team has held state and national titles and are currently preparing for the Tennessee Baton Twirling competition in May.
I am also very involved in my livestock community. In 2020, I started my own livestock farm where I raise and train Livestock animals that compete in state livestock shows. The name of my farm is Show-Mack Farms. Currently, I have shown hogs and steer that I have raised and trained. Because of my dedication to this sport, I was voted the Austin Brackin Sportsmanship Award for the last two years at my local livestock show. This award is given to the student that has shown leadership, endurance and offered help to fellow exhibitors throughout the year.
I am very busy in my community as the three time reigning Donalsonville Queen. I was Junior, Pre-Teen and Teen titleholder. As a reigning Queen, community service is necessary in helping with the local festivals and outreach activities within our local nursing homes.
I believe that possess many leadership roles in my school and my community, I would love your consideration for this esteemed scholarship. Thank you for the opportunity to speak about my leadership roles within my school and community.
