Volunteer Work

I have been a member of Back Country Horsemen of California for 4 years.

  • BCHC is a state wide organization dedicated to preserving California's backcountry.
  • Provides education to stock users, hikers, and bicyclists to promote the conservative use of trails and campsites.
  • Work with government agencies on issues and legislation concerning the backcountry.
  • Use our recourses (like stock and equipment) to maintain and repair trails and campsites and maintain other relations with agencies that also support the backcountry.

I have used my own horse and skills as a packer to take part in a few projects put on by our BCHC group.

Palm Canyon Project

  • From the months of October to November our team pack in and out, every other week, a team of Forest Service members into the Palm Canyon area outside of the Agua Caliente reservation.
  • The Forest Service Crew's objective was to rid certain parts of the Palm Canyon of an invasive plant called Tamarisk.
  • Our pack crew was tasked with using our stock (mules and horses), to bring down the crew's supplies which consisted of water, food, hand tools and equipment, and the used herbicides.
  • I took part in this project in both 2022 and 2023

Tahquitz Creek Project

  • This was a one week project in June of 2023
  • Our task was to pack in and out a crew from the American Conservation Experience to a certain area of the Pacific Crest Trail via Humber Park in Idyllwild, CA.
  • The ACE crew was heading up a trail maintenance project on the PCT, our stock was used to haul the needed water, food and trail maintenance equipment.
