I conduct individual therapy sessions with clients that range in mental health diagnoses. I primarily work with clients who are wanting to process traumatic experiences through EMDR. I've worked with clients diagnosed with PTSD, GAD, MDD, Schizoaffective disorder, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, OCD, and other mood disorders.
I worked on the inpatient psychiatric unit at the prison. I conducted individual and group sessions. I would conduct treatment team meetings for the clients on my caseload, assess clients while in crisis, meet with clients on suicide watch, and write disciplinary reports (if it wasn't due to their mental health disorder). I worked with clients who were primarily diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, autism, cognitive delays, MDD, PTSD, and GAD.
I started the job as a unit team case manager and was promoted to unit team supervisor. I was in charge of one of the wings in the medium security facility. I had a caseload of 125 men. My job was to help them with paperwork for release, getting a job in prison, finding resources in and out of prison, applying for FAFSA through the prison system, assigning clothes, jobs within the wing, and doing cell checks to make sure cells were in compliance. I was also first line in an emergency on the medium security unit. Therefore, I answered calls for psychosis, drug overdose, suicide attempts/completions, and/or attacks on officers. As a supervisor, my job was to train new hires on the medium security wing how to do paperwork and attend to the inmates on their unit. I would answer any questions or concerns they had. I would address any concerns I was having about their performance, as well.
There were a multitude of responsibilities given in order to ensure the care and safety of the foster children in state's custody. I would be responsible for finding foster placement/relative placement for children coming into care, fill out medical paperwork so that children could get care, daycare paperwork, interstate compact for children with family out of state or potential adopters, and writing court reports advocating for permanency whether it was adoption, guardianship, or reunification. I would make foster home visits to make sure the children were being cared for and no abuse was going on in the home. I would visit the biological parents (if reunification was the goal) to make sure they were attending court ordered services and their homes were safe for children to reside. If the kids were in a residential facility, I would meet with the children and their treatment team to discuss their progress. I would also be responsible for transport to court, medical appointments, visits with parents/siblings, and any other transportation needs if foster families were unable to do so. I would conduct parent/child visits, if needed. If the child was going to age out of the system, then we were work on college applications, job applications, mental health services, medical insurance, and/or apartment applications to ensure success after aging out.
