  • - The core responsibilities of the Mortar Squad leader in the mortar section in a infantry line company/troop are the training and professional development of 2 mortar gun teams assigned to the section. These mortar gun teams consist of 8 mortar men that the squad leader counsels and leads for the mission of the troop while answering to the Section Leader for the section who then answering directly to the troop or company commander.
  • Counseling consists of monthly and quarterly counselings that are based on performance, conduct, and development in the soldiers overall knowledge in his or hers military occupational specialty. This leadership position also demands the fire direction control knowledge known as (FDC) that is essential for the task of live firing mortars systems enabling the mortar to be fired without being in line of sight from the mortar gun team.
  • - Mortar Section Leader
  • - The core responsibilities of the Mortar Section Leader for the Mortar section for a troop or line company is the overall success or failure of the Squad Leader and the 2 gun teams. This is the highest role of the Mortar section in terms of experience this is the most senior and knowledgeable soldier in the section.

These 18 personal operate 6 gun truck teams in basic function with the ability to carry more than the basic equipment and personal.
  • The Light Section Non-commissioned Officer is responsible for the junior marines usually consist of the drivers and gunners. This responsibilities include monthly and quarterly performance reviews and writing recommendations for corrections and awards. The other functions include coaching and leading this team in daily task although with annually qualifications.
  • - The Senior Mounted Machine Gunner and Range Safety Officer
  • - The core functions of the Senior Machine Gunner and Range Safety Officer include qualifying on all mounted machine guns day and night iterations, and completing all rifle table qualifications to include day and night qualifications. These ranges and tables are not just completed by the individual but also all the mounted gunner for the company which are coached, mentored, and tested by the Senior Gunner.
