I worked for Fedex at Alliance Airport as a Material Handler doing inventory work, aircraft up and downloading, truck trailer up and downloading, and inspections of loading devices using various equipment such as forklifts, cargo tractors, and lifts. Due to it being an airport, I had to adhere to FAA and the specific airports standards, with the work being very sensitive as a mistake would lead to tens of thousands of delays, injury, or damage to aircraft or the trucks. My work included but was not limited to:
While working here was fun, I wanted to pursue my passion of cars and tinkering, so I quit and joined NTB/Mavis
At Mavis my responsibilities are performing basic maintenance on vehicles such as oil, tires, brakes, alignments, and batteries. We do inspections of common wear items on any vehicles that come into the shop (suspension, brakes, batteries, filters, etc,) and diagnose cars with faults related to those parts.
While most of this is stuff I was already familiar with, I really joined Mavis because I thought I would start by getting entry level experience to then be promoted to an actual Technician position. However it's becoming apparent that probably won't happen due to the current state of it's management, with other employees already gone or leaving.
My time working on vehicles started a couple years ago when my dad bought a second hand boat, where I helped him repair and maintain it's engine and electrical system.
I also really got into cars around this time and early this year bought a 2004 E46 330Cic as a project. Over the year, I spent almost all my Fedex money restoring it into a reliable and sporty daily driver that I use today. First thing I did was a full fluid refresh, then I upgraded it's suspension to zhp, swapped the differential, replaced every component around the engine (starter, alternator, cooling system, etc,) changed brakes, repaired it's VANOS system and alot more. I'm planning on getting an E30 hopefully soon.
